Terms
Terms of use
Last updated 19 October 2026
These terms are the rules for using Wane: the app and gowane.com. Please read them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
Agreeing to these terms
Wane is run by Amr Al Kozbari, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using Wane, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Wane.
Who can use it
You must be 13 or older to use Wane. If the law where you live needs a parent or guardian to agree for someone your age, they must agree to these terms too. You cannot use Wane if we have removed your account before.
Your account
Give us a real email address and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using it.
Pick a username that is yours to use. Do not choose one that pretends to be another person, brand or restaurant, or that is offensive. We may change or take back a username that breaks these terms.
Your content
Your content is what you add: places you log, ratings, notes, photos, lists, comments, replies and your profile. You own it.
You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, show and share your content so we can run Wane: in the app, to the people who can see it under your privacy settings, and on the links you or others share, such as shared lists and profile pages on gowane.com. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content that stays without your name as our privacy policy describes.
Your content must be about real dining experiences: places you have actually been, and your honest opinion of them. Only post photos and text that you have the right to share.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users
There is no place on Wane for objectionable content or abusive users. You must not post, and must not use Wane to send or share:
- Harassment or bullying, including threats, insults and pile-ons aimed at a person.
- Hate: content that attacks people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or illness.
- Nudity or sexual content.
- Violence, threats of violence, or content that encourages harm.
- Spam: repeated, fake or misleading posts, advertising, and fake reviews, including reviews you were paid for or wrote about your own business.
- Impersonation: pretending to be another person, brand or restaurant.
- Other people's private information, such as their phone number, address or photos of them shared without their permission.
- Anything illegal, or that infringes someone else's rights.
We remove content that breaks this rule, and we may remove the accounts of users who post it or who abuse others. We do not have to warn you first.
Reporting and blocking
If you see something that breaks these terms, report it in the app:
- A post: tap the "..." on the post, then Report post.
- A comment: tap the "..." beside the comment, then Report.
- An account: tap the "..." on their profile, then Report account.
To block someone, tap the "..." on their profile, then Block. Once blocked, they cannot see your profile, posts or lists, even with a list's link, find you in search, or comment on your posts, and you will not see theirs. They are not told. You can see and undo blocks in Settings, under Blocked accounts.
If you cannot use the app, email hello@gowane.com with the username and what happened.
How we handle reports
We review every report, aiming to act within 24 hours. When content breaks these terms we remove it, and we may remove the account of the user who posted it. We may also remove content or accounts that we find ourselves, without a report.
Restaurant accounts
If you manage a restaurant, you can claim its page. You must have the right to act for that restaurant, and we confirm every claim before switching the page on. When you act as the restaurant, you post and reply in its name, and these terms apply to everything you post, including replies to diners. Keep replies polite and never threaten, pressure or reward diners over what they post. The information you give for the page must be accurate.
Membership and perks
Wane Pro is an optional membership. It adds extras to the app: a Pro mark by your name and, for the first 500 people to buy a membership, a founding number; more app icons and share card styles; a deeper look at your own taste and at where you and another person agree; an archive of everywhere you have been; and a second streak restore each month. In the cities where perks are open, it also gives you perks that restaurants offer only to members. Finding places, ranking them and sharing your lists are free.
A founding number is yours for good and shows while your membership is active. It cannot be passed on or sold.
Membership is sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, under Apple's terms. It renews automatically until you cancel it in Settings, your name, Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Refunds are handled by Apple.
Perks are offered and honoured by the restaurants. Each perk has its own terms, days and hours, shown in the app, and a restaurant can pause or end a perk. You use a perk at the place, by scanning its table code and having staff confirm it, one perk per place a day. Perks are for the member only and cannot be passed on or sold.
A perk never depends on how you rate a place, and a restaurant cannot choose who gets one by their ratings. Restaurants see how many perks were used and a confirmation code, never who used them.
A membership belongs to the account that bought it in the app. One started from an offer code outside the app, or bought on an account since deleted, belongs to the first account that confirms it.
If membership closes in a city, perks there stop; cancel in Settings, your name, Subscriptions, and ask Apple about a refund.
Referral rewards
From time to time the app may show a referral offer. When it does, you can share your invite link, or a link to your profile, a list, a post or a place, and when a friend joins through it and then ranks places, you can earn free months of Wane Pro, and so can they. The ladder shown in the app at that time is the whole offer: how many friends it takes, how many months each step gives and what counts as ranking enough. Nothing is promised while the app shows no offer, and nothing else is promised at any time.
A reward is an Apple offer code. You redeem it in the App Store, under Apple's terms, and Apple applies it to a Pro subscription. A reward has no cash value, cannot be sold, exchanged or passed on, and expires on the date shown in the app.
An offer may end or change at any time, and may not be available in every country. We may withhold or take back rewards from accounts made to game them, such as accounts you create or control to refer yourself or to earn rewards, and from accounts that break these terms.
Using it fairly
You must not:
- Copy, scrape or collect content or data from Wane by automated means.
- Try to get into accounts or parts of Wane that are not yours, or get around a block, a limit or a removal.
- Disrupt or overload Wane, or spread viruses or other harmful code.
- Create accounts in bulk or use fake accounts to change rankings.
- Use Wane for anything illegal.
Ending your use
You can stop at any time and delete your account in Settings. We may suspend or remove your account, and remove your content, if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other users. If we remove your account you must not create a new one.
Place information and ratings
Place details such as names, addresses, hours and prices come from other sources and from restaurants and users, and may be wrong or out of date. Ratings and posts are the opinions of the people who wrote them, not ours. Check with the place before you rely on anything you read on Wane.
Estimates and generated content
Menus in the app can show prices, calories and dietary marks, such as "May contain gluten" or "May not be vegetarian". Prices are typed out from photos of the printed menu, with the help of software. Calories are the figure the menu prints or, where it prints none, an estimate. Dietary marks are estimates, some written by AI from the wording of the menu. A place's price range can be an estimate too. None of these are checked with the restaurant, and any of them can be wrong or out of date. A dish with no mark is not known to be safe.
If you have an allergy or a dietary need, always check with the restaurant before you order. Do not rely on a price, a calorie figure, a dietary mark or the lack of one.
More generally, anything the app generates, estimates or predicts for you, such as a predicted score or a suggestion, is for information only. It may be wrong, and it is not medical, nutrition or other professional advice.
Google Maps content
Place pages can show photos from Google Maps. They are Google's content, shown with their authors credited and marked as Google Maps, and they are separate from our own scores, which come only from people on this app.
Your use of Google Maps content is also subject to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service (https://maps.google.com/help/terms_maps.html) and the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). You may not copy, save or share Google Maps content from the app. If a Google photo is wrong or harmful, tap Report this photo.
No guarantees
We work hard to keep Wane running well, but we provide it "as is". We do not promise that it will always be available, free of errors, or right for your needs. We may change or stop features at any time.
Our liability
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, lost profits or lost data, for what other users or restaurants do or post, or for your visit to any place you find on Wane. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates as applied in the Emirate of Dubai. Disputes go to the courts of Dubai, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them where you live.
Changes
If we change these terms we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept the new terms.
